How to help Hong Kong Disneyland

Hong Kong Disneyland is a little gem of a theme park. Unfortunately the emphasis is on the 'little' when it should be on the 'theme' (it has plenty of beautiful theming). The mis-steps made by Disney in its construction of the little park has led to an actual drop in attendance during its second year. Not just a little drop either, nearly a quarter fewer visitors than before.

What does Disney need to do to reverse that ugly trend? They need to offer more value for the money either by dropping prices or building out really quickly. The Hong Kong Disneyland version of It's A Small World is scheduled to open in the spring of 2008. But that won't be enough.

I'm hearing rumors that Disney will be quickly adding four to five new 'attractions' to the park's lineup. Traditionally this means stage shows, animation exhibits, and movie based attractions. So for Hong Kong Disneyland that means: Turtle Talk with Crush (popular at the US based parks), Muppets Mobile Lab (the self-contained animatronic roving show - also a hit in the US), a High School Musical show (a hit in the US), and an Animation Artwork exhibit featuring work from various Disney and Pixar films (again popular in the US). Are you sensing a trend there?

We'll see if this response of transferring what works in the US to Hong Kong is a winning one. I would have liked to see a few attractions designed with the Hong Kong visitor in mind.

A nice heart warming Holiday Story

Niekon has a nice heart warming story for the Holidays.

Question: You and your family are staying at one of the hotels at the Disneyland Resort… it’s breakfast time… family is all set to go but Grandma is having chest pains. Do you go to breakfast or call the paramedics?
What do you think they did?
